For a couple hundred years I was secretly very cross about the passing law.
Who would want to give up the life we had to blend in and pass unnoticed? It was a huge sacrifice, and technically very difficult. We tend to stand out. And back in the day, 6 foot tall glowing skin healthy beautiful people --not even taking our charisma into consideration-- stood out even more.
But it had to be done, and I did come up with it, after all, and lobbied and well you all remember how annoying and self righteous I was about it.
Then again there are days like this. When I get nearly plowed over in the subway station on my way to my data entry job where I fill my hours with the interweb (like now) so as to not raise suspicion on how easy this job is for me, when I am actually looking forward to going home to instant rice and a Will Ferrell movie and a very lazy dog... days like these, I can't help but wonder if I got it right.
Honestly, if all Bast wanted in life was to be a crazy cat lady in some no-name suburb, would it really draw that much attention? Those really do exist and are not even noteworthy mostly. There really are hundreds of millionaires who manage to stay below the radar, of course they aren't generally young-looking nor have they accumulated their millions inexplicably.
I'm rambling, as we orators tend to. Perhaps it's time to reconsider founding the Elysium. The idea was tossed out long ago, because we honestly drive each other nuts, and all of us in one place... talk about drawing attention. I suppose this passing law builds character. You'd think in 4000 years we'd all have character enough by now.
Ah if only it worked that way.
